11 Etiquette Of Reading Quran You Should Be Aware Of

Share

The Holy Quran is the last heavenly book revealed by Allah Almighty, beginning with Al-Fatihah and concluding with An-Nas. Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.) was the one on whom the Quran was revealed in stages over 23 years.

When Muslims experience adversity, they turn to the Quran. The holy book contains solutions to all problems and a general direction for life.

1. Sincere Intentions

Sincerity is the most crucial etiquette of reading Quran. The most important thing to remember when reciting the Holy Quran is to be sincere and to read from a pure heart. You should recite the Quran exclusively for the Lord’s benefit and pleasure, not for show or worldly gain.

2. Take Note of Cleanliness and Wudhu

Reading the Quran requires hygiene by doing Wudhu (Ablution). It signifies that your attire and body should be clean and that you should use ablution before reciting the Quran. Prophet Muhammad describes cleanliness as “Half of Faith” (P.B.U.H.).

3. Place The Quran On Top

Allah’s Holy Book deserves a lot of respect. Therefore, keeping the Quran in your lap while reading is not advised. Putting the Holy Quran on the ground is considered shameful and a sin. It is recommended to set the Quran on a nice and clean cushion.

A separate table for reading the Quran is also an excellent option.

4. Turn To Face the Qiblah Direction

It is advisable to face the Qiblah (the face of the Holy Kaaba) when reciting Quran since that is the ideal setting. Although it is not required, it is one of the etiquette and rules of reciting the Holy Quran. Also, avoid leaning back or to the side while reading the Quran. Sit upright and comfortably.

5. Hold The Quran With Your Right Hand

Remember that the book you’re reading isn’t any ordinary book. The book of Allah is the holiest book on the earth and heaven. Because it is Prophet Muhammad’s Hadith, you should carry the Holy Quran in your right hand with the highest love and reverence (P.B.U.H.).

6. Before Reciting, Read “Tauz” and “Tasmia”

Concentration is required when reciting the Holy Quran. Because Satan is constantly around to distract the reciter, it is best to practice reciting two duas called “Tauz” and “Tasmia” before beginning to recite.

“Audhu Billahi mina-Shaitan-nir-Rajeem,” says Tauz. (From Satan, the Accursed, I seek shelter with Allah.)

“Bismillah ir-Rahman ir-Rahim,” says Tasmia (In the name of God, most Gracious, most Compassionate.)

If you are reading a Surah from the mid, start with “Tauz” only; if you are reciting a Surah from the beginning, recite both “Tauz” and “Tasmia.”

7. Recite in a Lovely Tone

When reading the Holy Quran, please remember that you are reciting the Lord’s text. You should improve your tone and use a firm voice when reading the Quran.

However, it is forbidden to enhance the attractiveness of the voice in reading the Quran to the point of breaking Tajweed norms.

Similarly, you should not read the Quran all at once. Slowly read each ayah to understand its significance better and relate to what has been spoken.

8. Follow Tajweed Regulations

Because Arabic is such a complicated language, every mispronunciation might alter its genuine meaning.

The Holy Quran must be recited with utmost care regarding pronunciation and Tajweed. Tajweed is the understanding of recitation norms and their implementation when reciting the Quran. It says that each letter should be assigned its proper position in the meaning.

Follow all the instructions on pronouncing Quranic Arabic letters, where to halt during recitation, where not to, where to stop, where to extend pronunciation, and more.

9. Prostrate In Front Of The Lord

The Quran has 14 passages in which the reader and listener must prostrate (perform Sajdah) after reading. Prostration is Farz (abolish) on both the scripture verse and the listener.

10. Try Not to Talk While Reciting

Not getting distracted or talking to anybody when reciting the Holy Book is critical. If you need to talk about anything significant, you can finish a verse and close the book before continuing. Furthermore, when one listens to the voice of Azaan, one must stop reciting the Holy Quran.

11. Secure Nicely

It is critical to store the Quran in a secure location since someone may unintentionally walk on it. Please keep it away from youngsters, dogs, and anybody who does not comprehend the book’s significance.

Etiquettes of Reciting Qur’an

Among the etiquettes of reading Quran stated by Ibn Katheer are the following:

  • Except in a condition of purity, no one should recite or touch the Qur’an.
  • Before reciting, one has to use Siwak to cleanse his teeth.
  • One should put on his most admirable attire.
  • One should pray for the right way (Qiblah).
  • When yawning, one should halt his recital.
  • Except when required, one should not break his recital to talk.
  • One should pay close attention to what he is saying.
  • When a scripture mentions a reward, one should halt and petition Allah for that compensation.
  • When a passage mentions punishment, one should halt and seek shelter in Allah from that punishment.
  • It is not permissible to leave the Qur’an open or set anything on it.
  • It is not appropriate to recite at markets or other areas with a lot of noise.
  • Many of you would have queries about how should you sit when reciting Quran, so there is no need to worry about it; sit in the direction of Qibla.

The Manner of Recitation

The Holy Quran is not an ordinary book. It is a sacred, holy book; this is the reason why there are manners of reading Quran:

“He (Prophet) would stretch it; thus, when he read ‘Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Raheem,’ he would lengthen Allah, ar-Rahman, and ar-Raheem,” Anas stated. (al-Bukhari).

Everyone who recites the Qur’an purely for Allah’s sake will be rewarded, but this honor is doubled if the recitation is accompanied by attentiveness, reflection, and knowledge of what is being recited. Each letter pronounced in this manner will be doubled to seven hundred times.

Everyday Qur’an Recitation Etiquette

The Prophet’s (S.A.W.W) companions would recite the Qur’an every day, and almost none of them would create a practice of reciting the entire Qur’an in less than a week. They were instead forbidden from repeating it in fewer than three days.

Spend your time reciting the Qur’an, my dear sisters, and brothers. Set a predetermined quantity to recite every day. Remember the etiquette of reciting Quran and stick to it no matter what because a small amount said frequently is preferable to a substantial quantity recited sporadically.

If you forget or fall asleep, remember what the Prophet () said: “Whoever falls asleep and misses to recite his share of the Qur’an or part of it, and then recites it between the Fajr and Duhr prayer of the following day, it will be recorded for him as if he read it at night” (Muslim).

Do not be among those who ignore or forget the Qur’an in any way, including forgetting to read or recite it, failing to contemplate its contents, failing to put its teachings into action, or failing to seek its treatment for ailments.

Quran’s Inviolability

part from reading Quran etiquettes, there are some etiquettes of the Quran itself as we should always prevent the Quran from violence or mishandling

1. Not to touch the Qur’an except in the condition of ceremonial cleanliness in Wudhu and only to recite it in that state.

2. Brushing one’s molars with a dental stick (Siwak), removing bits of food from between them, and freshening one’s mouth before reciting, as this is the path the Qur’an takes.

3. To sit upright and not slouch back while not in prayer.

4. To dress for reciting as though going to see a prince because the reciter is involved in an intimate conversation.

5. To recite towards the path of prayer (Qiblah).

6. To rinse one’s mouth with water after coughing up mucous or phlegm.

7. To cease reading when one yawns because reciting is a private communication with one’s Lord, but yawning comes from the Devil.

8. When beginning to recite, seek shelter in Allah from the cursed Devil and say “Bismillah,” whether at the beginning of the first Surah or any other point.

9. Once started, refrain from interrupting the recitation with human words unless required.

10. To recite it lonely so that no one interrupts, confuse you with the words of the Quran with answering, negating the efficacy of having sought shelter in Allah from the Devil at the outset.

Conclusion

These are some essential manners and etiquette about how to recite the Quran. All of these factors should be kept in view before and throughout the recitation of the Holy Quran.

May Allah put us among those who appreciate, love, and care for His Book! Ameen.
